There is a football fever in Saudi Arabia at the moment. The Spanish Super Cup is being played in Riyadh and the fans there have already seen two semi-final battles. As expected, Barcelona and Real Madrid will face each other in the final, which the stars of Osasuna disagree with.

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia was treated to several days of football. While the football is completely beyond complaint so far, the football crowd in Riyadh has received harsh criticism for several reasons.

But let’s stick to football. Real Madrid defeated their city rivals in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, while Atlético Madrid managed a 3-3 draw in normal time, but scored twice in extra time and the White Ballet will now face the final.

On Thursday, the second semi-final match between Barcelona and Osasuna took place, with the Catalans winning 2-0. The goals were scored by Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.

However, it is worth noting that the Polish striker’s goal in particular was somewhat controversial. The Osasuna players are clear on this. In fact, there was a fight between Andreas Christensen and Jose Arnaiz during a set piece, during which Arnaiz was allegedly fouled.

But the referee didn’t blow his whistle and VAR didn’t intervene after the goal was scored. Barcelona took the lead and went on to reach the final, where they will play Real Madrid.

Do Barcelona and Real Madrid have a clear path?

Barcelona were better than Osasuna throughout the game, but they wasted most of their chances. Nevertheless, they are through. But the opposition stars are biting hard. Goalkeeper Sergio Herrera, for example, didn’t exactly hold back when talking to reporters.

“This competition is clearly designed to be won by Barcelona or Real Madrid. Obviously, they generate the most money. Anyone who disagrees with that doesn’t follow football,” Goal quoted Herrera as saying.

Defender David Garcia, who was particularly critical of the referee, said: “You all saw it. The number of senseless fouls blown in Barcelona’s favour… It was obvious. Two identical situations within three minutes and both in their favour. Whether it’s a coincidence or not, the same teams always have the advantage.”

So Osasuna may be unhappy, but they can’t do much more. It is the fans of Spanish football who can look forward to El Clásico, which will take place on Sunday at 20: 00. Will it be Barcelona or Real Madrid who will win the Spanish Super Cup?
