In the opening semi-final of the Women’s Champions League, Lyon won 3:2, so PSG needed to win at home. But it didn’t.
In the rematch in the French capital, the 25-year-old Czech goalkeeper Barbora Votíková was not missing from the starting line-up, as she pulled the ball out of the net once in the first half and PSG’s chances were reduced.
It got worse later in the 42nd minute when Votíková backed into the goal, caught her left knee and fell to the ground with a painful grimace.
Doctors tried to fix her and Votíková decided to finish the half, but every time she had to go for the ball, it was obvious how much it hurt.
So it was clear that she was unlikely to start the second half. Twenty-three-year-old German Charlotte Voll came on.
The Parisian team managed to score after an hour of play, but the visiting team struck at the end and PSG bid farewell to the Champions League.
