For the first time in her career, Barbora Krejcikova advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where she will play Madison Keys. How will the duel play out?
Krejcikova is stepping out of her shadow at this year’s Australian Open. She has never made it past the second round, having dropped five times in qualifying bouts. But after last year’s breakthrough season, it was almost certain that she would break her record in Melbourne this year.
On her way to the quarterfinals, she knocked out three former Top 10 members, Petkovic, Ostapenko and Sabalenka. She has been playing in great form at the tournament, losing only one set when she had to turn back against Jelena Ostapenko, all the other matches she managed 2:0.
Although she is fourth in the ATP rankings and Keys only 51st, it means nothing. The American tennis player knocked out the sixth ranked player in the world Paula G. in the eighth round after a sovereign performance. Bados 6-3 and 6-1.
The former world number seven is like a born again and is in her best form in recent years. She finished last season with a record of 11-15, and she also lost nine out of 12 duels on the concrete. This year, however, she has won ten of her eleven duels and lost only once.
Keys is riding a big wave, she has a lot of confidence, for the first time since 2018 she beat a top 10 player at a Grand Slam. Krejcikova will have to put in a great performance to beat the 26-year-old.
We can expect a big battle. Neither player will want to give anything to the other, so a three-set battle can easily be predicted.
