Barbora Krejcikova has had a great season. First of all, we have to mention the very surprising triumph at the French Open. To this, the Brno native added victories in Strasbourg and Prague. But we must not forget the quarterfinals of the US Open or the gold medal from the Olympic Games in doubles.
Since the beginning of 2021, Krejcikova has managed to play 58 matches, which she probably didn’t expect. Thanks to this, she has moved up to third position on the WTA rankings, which is also her career high.
Her opponent on Wednesday will be Anett Kontaveit. The 25-year-old Estonian tennis player only secured her participation in the Champions Tournament at the last minute. She trailed Ons Jabeur by just 41 points.
Kontaveit has been in great form since the second half of August. During this period, she has won events in Cleveland, Ostrava, Moscow and Cluj. Her winning streak now stands at ten duels.
Wednesday will be the first ever meeting between these players. However, Kontaveit is in a better state of mind at the moment. Krejcikova has lost her last three matches and for obvious reasons she is showing slight signs of fatigue.
