Barbora Krejcikova will remember 2021 as a breakthrough year. The former world number one in doubles has made huge progress in singles, as evidenced by the Dubai final and the Strasbourg tournament victory.
Then came the beauty of Roland Garros. Barbora Krejcikova managed to beat Elina Svitolina, Cori Gauff, Sloane Stephens and Maria Sakkari in the French capital.
In Saturday’s final, she also defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and lifted the Grand Slam singles trophy for the first time in her career.
For Krejcikova, it also means a move up the WTA rankings. In Monday’s edition she will be ranked 15th, with both Petra Kvitova and Karolina Pliskova in her sights.
There will also be a shift in the 2021 rankings, where Krejcikova will move up to second place with 3,258 points, which will bring her very close to the Tournament of Champions.
And how are the other players from the Czech Republic doing? Karolina Pliskova is currently in 16th place, only 49 points ahead of Karolina Muchova. Kvitova, who is ranked 21st, could also make it to the elite women’s tournament.
