The first matches of the group stage of the Conference Europa League are in full swing and one of them featured a Czech footballer. Antonín Barák sent his Fiorentina side into the lead after less than an hour of play with a shot from just outside the box.

Antonín Barák switched jobs in the summer and went on loan from Verona to Fiorentina, who advanced to the group stage of the Europa League via Twente.

In that group, they caught Basaksehir, Hearts and RFS. They played their first match against the latter and the Czech national midfielder was not missing from the starting line-up.

The Italian side was pressing their Latvian opponent, but in the first half they failed to get the ball behind the back of the 36-year-old goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors.

However, after less than an hour, Barak intervened. He received a precise centre on the edge of the small penalty area and then only directed the ball correctly, from which he had no problem getting the ball into the net.

For the 11th team in the Italian top flight, this goal was reassuring, after all, a loss at home to such an outsider would not please the fans.

They are not too happy with the start of the season, as their team has only six points after five rounds, with one win and three draws. And in the end, they couldn’t be happy in this match either, as the Latvian side equalised and the match ended 1-1.
