Baník Ostrava is entering the 2022/23 season with big plans, ambitions and a new general partner.
However, there will be one change. During December and January Baník will stop using the annual logo and return to the classic one. The club’s marketing manager Jan Krejcicek also revealed at the press conference that Baník is also improving its match service and will want to make league matches more interesting with visits from Baník legends.
Baník celebrates 100 years
The Ostrava team has already come up with some very interesting events as part of the celebrations. Until October, the fans will still be able to enjoy the so-called Baník Expo, which breathes the glorious history of Baník, and a film called The Best of Us has been a success.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was undoubtedly the match against Celtic Glasgow, and in September, Baník100fest will take place at Silesian Ostrava Castle, where Jaromír Nohavica will be performing, and bands such as Kryštof, Mirai, Traktor and Horkýže slíže will also play.
Will Baník fans finally get to see the European cups?
Baník has a clear goal for the new season, and that is the attack on the ranks ensuring participation in the European Cups. At the press conference, coach Vrba summed up where Baník currently stands in this year’s transfer window and revealed that the club’s management is still looking for a winger.
However, we did not hear specific names. Michal Frydrych, Eldar Šehič, Karel Pojezný, Jiří Letáček, Muhamed Tijani, Muhammed Sanneh and Jan Kubala have all headed to Ostrava. Goalkeeper Martin Hrubý also came from the youth team, Baník exercised the option for Ladislav Takács.
“I think the team has been properly completed. Maybe too much, I was used to two or three arrivals. But all of them are close to starting in the starting line-up on Saturday,” said coach Vrba.
“They are mostly ready players, no trialists. And it’s about quality. They should help us. We certainly didn’t want to go and buy ten or fifteen players because of the pressure of not making anyone. Rather, we focused on what we needed and that’s what we did.
“If we can do that, we want to make a player that will help. We’re not going to try him for six months because we have players with such quality that they can play in the league,” he added.
“We don’t want to throw tens of millions of crowns at players who we would have a question mark about whether they will help Baník anyway. And not only on the pitch, but also in the development of young players. The owner has invested in infrastructure, and Baník’s emphasis on youth belongs to them. We would like to fulfill our wishes, and the wishes of the fans, and win participation in the cups. Whether through the league or the MOL Cup, but in an authentic way for Baník,” explained the club’s executive director Michal Bělák.
Injury to Almási
According to the words of not only coach Vrba, but also Baník’s sporting director Alois Grussmann, there doesn’t seem to be any serious injury at the moment, which is what everyone feared. It should be noted that the Slovak striker was still representing the national team after the end of the league season.
It was therefore likely that due to the heavy workload and fatigue some injury would occur, but in the end Almási should be available to Baník soon.
“The doctors themselves are correcting what was first said. It’s mainly about him, he himself must believe that he is medically fine. We will wait until he feels 100% fit, nobody wants to interfere with the work of the doctors.
It’s likely that he won’t be for the start of the season, but we’re doing our best. It won’t be anything long-term. It’s amatter of days before he will be back in training,” Vrba commented on the situation around Almási.
Baník is also currently successfully fending off all the offers that are floating around for Almási. The Bratislava native is staying in the Silesian club and will surely fight for the crown of the king of scorers again in the 2022/23 season.
