The WTA, the Women’s Tennis Association, has now fined the Wimbledon organiser who pre-empted the Russian and Belarusian tennis players.
The All England Club, the organiser of Wimbledon, the most famous tennis tournament, has been fined by the WTA, the women’s tennis association, for banning the participation of Russian and Belarusian women.
The fine amounts to 250 thousand dollars, 750 thousand more must also be paid by the British Tennis Association LTA. The men’s ATP is considering a similar move.
The president of the All England Club said she stands by her decision. The fine is even higher, as 250 thousand must be paid not only for Wimbledon, but also for the remaining tournaments in Birmingham, Nottingham and Eastbourne.
The WTA’s move is quite unusual in the sport, as most have decided to exclude teams and athletes from the aggressor countries until they withdraw from Ukraine.
Wimbledon is now in full swing and the Czech handcuffs are in play in the women’s doubles in the form of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.
