Balotelli makes fun of Agüero: He’s been in England for 14 years and still doesn’t speak English!

“Here’s Balotelli… Agüerooo”. You’ll probably immediately understand which moment Martin Tyler’s famous comment came from. The two Manchester City’s first title winners also met in the studio after the Champions League final, with the Italian poking fun at the Argentine’s English.

If you live in a foreign country, learning its language is pretty basic. It will make your life easier and it will also show respect to the locals. Of course it’s more difficult if you live in a smaller country that has a difficult language, but if you live in England it’s a win.

But even that wasn’t enough for Agüero to learn proper English. He came to Manchester City in 2011, but he never took a liking to the language.

His teammates joked that he hadn’t spoken a word of English for years, and one member of staff even let it be known after he left that Agüero rarely spoke English.

After a couple of years he learned at least the basics and a few phrases, but struggled a lot with pronunciation. He didn’t really need to know much English, as Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini arrived in 2013, followed three years later by Spain’s Pep Guardiola, and he always had a couple of Spanish-speaking teammates in his squad.

Since the end of his career, Agüero has been streaming games on the internet and also occasionally commentating on matches. During the Champions League semi-final, he amused himself by pronouncing the names of Inter players he couldn’t make out.

After the victorious final in Istanbul, he was celebrating on the pitch with the Citizens players when BT Sport television asked him to come into the studio. There he also met Rio Ferdinand, Cesc Fabregas and Mario Balotelli.

Agüero proved once again in the studio that English is not his strong point. He usually answered in one or two words, often not understanding and having to explain the question. There is no need to talk about grammar.

This was so amusing for Mario Balotelli, who is known for not going far for honesty and what’s on his heart is on his tongue. When Agüero left the studio, Ballotelli made his colleagues laugh.
