The home game against Feyenoord started very well for Trpišovský’s charges. Already in the twelfth minute, Peter Olayinka found himself practically alone in front of the opposing goalkeeper after a good pass. A striker of his quality is not mistaken in similar situations – 1::0!
But about twenty minutes later, Cyriel Dessers equalised and Feyenoord players remained very active. The coach of Slavia commented on this topic at the post-match conference.
“The match was difficult, Feyenoord entered the match very well, the beginning was very challenging in terms of battles and running. There was little space on the pitch, the opponent confirmed its great quality from the first match and its performance this season as well,” Trpišovský said at the press conference.
The pressing and really great activity of Feyenoord players did not let up even after Guus Til received a red card from the main referee. Hand on heart, it doesn’t show in the stats either. The Slavs had only one more shot on target in the final showdown.
Slavia managed to create solid chances in the match, but the Dutch side was very well prepared physically for this match and also threatened from several other, it must be said very promising, opportunities.
“We couldn’t get the difference goal from the counter-attacks we had and left the game open until the end, which was rewarded by an equaliser in injury time. It was a good crowd, a tough game, one of the most complex opponents to play here in a long time,” he explains.
“We let the victory slip away with a huge individual mistake in the set-up. It’s a shame, because it cost us a lot of strength and a lot of commitment and work in the match. It was a cheap, incomprehensible goal, I don’t rate it well, we should have managed the match,” says coach Trpišovský about the 2:2 draw.
He also praised Alexander Bach, whose performance was fantastic. He described the Danish defender as probably the best player of Slavia and acknowledged that he is still improving. His performance obviously made him happy.
The fact is that the twenty-three year old Dane is growing in quality and could easily ask for some solid foreign engagements in the future.
The Prague team still has to fight to stay in the Conference Europa League. Their next game is against Union Berlin, which will be a very unpleasant opponent. Not counting the games against Feyenoord, Bayern and St. Gallen, Union have lost only once this season, on 25 March in a friendly against Braunschweig.
“Not much will change towards the Union game, maybe it will be good for us rather than calculating something in our heads. I’m mainly disappointed with the result and the set-up,” Trpišovský added.
