The Czech Republic has had a tragic preparatory match for the upcoming European Championship. Our national team lost 0:4 to Italy and coach Jaroslav Šilhavý did not mince words about the performance of his players.

The final score was 0::4. This, as a result of preparation for the European Championship, which starts in a few days, did not exactly give our footballers confidence. Especially the centre of defence was burning like paper.

How did the coach of the national team Jaroslav Šilhavý comment on this performance?

“Bad performance, bad result. In my opinion, we played probably the worst since I’ve been here with the team. I have to add that we played with a great team. Not only strong in terms of skills, but also tactically advanced. They taught us a very clear lesson.”

“We have to take it, we couldn’t do better today. Maybe it’s better now than at the Euro. We have to analyse it tomorrow and learn from it. I want to believe that we’ll bounce back soon and build on our previous performances, not today’s.”

We played well and approached the game in the right way. The Czech Republic is a very good team, but we outplayed them. This was really good.”

“I think it took us about 10 minutes to get into it properly because we haven’t seen each other for a long time. But I was hoping for exactly that kind of performance. We know we have a young team that needs to improve in many ways, but to play the last preparation before the Euros in this way can only be positive.”

The Czech Republic will have one more preparatory match before they leave for the Euros on Tuesday 8 June at 20:15 against Albania. Let’s hope, however, that especially our midfielders will sit down and the game will calm down.

This is exactly what Šilhavy’s selection for the European Championship will need, because our national team is not going to be an easy group. Croatia, Scotland and last but not least England will be more than unpleasant opponents for us in the fight for promotion.
