Bad news for Schick, he injured ligaments in his ankle. He probably won’t go to the national team, how long will he be out?
Patrik Schick had a weekend marked by one good news and two bad ones. He scored again against Cologne, chasing Lewandowski and Haaland, but his Leverkusen side lost the lead 2-0 and the Czech striker was injured.
Patrik Schick had a weekend marked by one good news and two bad ones. He scored again against Cologne, chasing Lewandowski and Haaland, but his Leverkusen side lost the lead 2-0 and the Czech striker was injured.
Schick proved his great form against Cologne in the 15th minute. Diaby’s cross was tipped over Horn’s back in a slip and two minutes later Bellarabi made it 2: 0.
But in the second half, the fourth team in the table fell out of role and paid heavily for it. Modeste reduced it to 1: 2 in the 63rd minute, the French striker added a second goal in the 82nd minute. Schick was substituted three minutes later and it was his last time on the pitch for a while.
According to reports in the Sport daily, he injured ligaments in his ankle. He is expected to be out for about 2-4 weeks. He will thus miss the duel with Karlsruhe in the DFB Pokal, Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, Betis in the Europa League and Hertha in the Bundesliga.
From November 8th onwards, the national team break is on the agenda, which Schick will most likely miss as well. “Patrik has been in excellent form this autumn, he is one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga. I believe that the enforced break will not slow him down. It is a great pity for the player and the national team,” the player’s agent Pavel Paska told Deník Sport.
Of course, it’s a shame for the national team to lose its top scorer, but it shouldn’t be so noticeable at the November reunion. Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will face a qualifying match against Estonia, which they have to cope with even without Schick.
