Playing world tennis legend Novak Djokovic had a tumultuous Roland Garros. He enjoyed some great turnarounds but was eventually forced to retire before the quarterfinals. But according to a Eurosport expert, the organisers of the Paris Grand Slam did not treat him nearly as well as the Serbian tennis player deserved.

Djokovic at the French Open

Novak Djokovic arrived in Paris as the world number one with uncertain form. He didn’t disappoint, but his mission ended prematurely, as he didn’t enter the quarterfinal duel with Nora Ruud due to knee problems.

The Serbian tennis player managed to impress with two great turnarounds at Roland Garros. Against the Argentine Cerundolo, he overcame his health problems and his opponent’s lead and in a heroic performance, he finally rejoiced in advancing.

Djokovic also fought a tremendous battle a round earlier. In this duel, he turned the tide against Italian Musetti. And this match is the crux of the problem.

A bad joke by the organisers

The aforementioned battle between Djokovic and the Italian player was not only remarkable for its length. Even though it is related to it. This match ended at 3am.

Apparently, no amateur athlete voluntarily plays at such a time. It’s bizarre that the world number one has to fight for promotion three hours after midnight.

Eurosport expert John McEnroe was very critical of these events. “It was a joke that they put him on court from 10:30 in the evening,” he explains. In conjunction with the length of the match itself, the mid-night schedule was thus taken care of.

A long match at such an inconvenient time was bound to affect the Serbian tennis player’s body. “What time did he get to bed?” mcEnroe asks rhetorically. “It’s a shame,” he concludes.

Clearly, the 37-year-old’s recovery could not have been optimal. So while the health problems in the following match may not be a direct result of the night match, it certainly didn’t help Djokovic.
