One of the most interesting stories in tennis today is written by Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian tennis player shows a return to long lost positions and proves that the main thing for an athlete is faith. What did he do at the Masters tournament in Miami?

He knows what it’s like to be a world number three. But that’s fairly ancient history. Grigor Dimitrov went through a major dip in form thanks to health problems and the associated zebra-like fall.

After last year’s Wimbledon, the best Bulgarian tennis player in history settled into the world’s elite 20 and this year he is already attacking the top 10 again.

Dimitrov has earned the nickname “Baby Federer” thanks to the similarity of his game to the legendary Swiss. Along with him, the one-handed backhand is also returning to the top ten.

The thirty-two-year-old laid the foundation for his return to the top at the end of last year. But he took the main step this week in Florida.

Masters in Miami

Dimitrov got off to a slow start at his second Masters tournament of the year. But since his third match in Florida, he has only offered great performances.

He handled the tournament’s number eight seed Hurkacz. In the next round, he dispatched the inexperienced youngster Alcaraz. He secured his final appearance in Friday’s duel with Germany’s Zverev.

Two wins against players from the elite five of the rankings show the level Dimitrov is playing at now. But his psyche is also a huge weapon. “I keep believing and I keep trying,” says the newcomer to the top ten, describing his basic approach to tennis.

He will be aiming for his second Masters triumph in Sunday’s duel with Sinner. The first one at this level was won by Dimitrov in 2017. Will he add another surprise in Miami this year?
