The first tennis festival of the year is already knocking slowly but surely on the door. The Australian Open will start in just a few days and there is a lot to look forward to. Once again, the best tennis players will be there, and of course the Czech Republic will also be represented.

Unfortunately, Karolína Muchová and Karolina Plíšková will not take part in the tournament due to health problems. On the other hand, Barbora Krejcikova, Petra Kvitova, Marketa Vondrousova, Tereza Martincova, Kateřina Siniaková and Marie Bouzkova have registered for the tournament. Jiří Veselý will also be missing.

As far as the biggest stars are concerned, Novak Djokovic, who refuses to be vaccinated, was not counted on too much, but he was granted an exception. The Serb can not only defend his title and win his tenth title in Melbourne, but also surpass Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the number of Grand Slam titles.

Nadal, however, will be at the tournament. Federer will not. Outside of Federer, Dominic Thiem will be absent, while Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu and Jennifer Brady will not appear among the female stars.

When and where will the Australian Open take place?

The Australian Open will be held from 17-30 January at the Melbourne Park venue, where it has been held regularly since 1988.

The stadiums will then be open to fans. For now, it is expected that the stands will be able to be filled to 100%.

Who are the main favourites to win the Australian Open?

In the men’s singles, Novak Djokovic will be the main favourite to defend his title. This is his favourite tournament.

In the women’s singles, Naomi Osaka will defend her Australian Open title, but the bookmakers say Ashleigh Barty is the favourite
