Still nothing is confirmed, but many media are already speculating about the postponement of the new Formula 1 season. The Australian Grand Prix is in jeopardy because of the coronavirus. What’s the situation?

Last Formula 1 season, the race in Melbourne was cancelled, but this should not happen now. However, it is still at risk of not taking place on the planned March date. The coronavirus is again to blame.

Why? Because the complications for the race itself are the mandatory quarantine that would have been in place for those taking part and the time it would have taken to sort out the infrastructure.

The downside, of course, is the fact that this is a city grand prix. The F1 management is counting on the isolated community strategy, just as it did last season, but the quarantine awaits the participants of the tennis Australian Open and it should be no different for the participants of the formula race.

This is unfeasible given that a quarantine would disrupt pre-season preparations in Barcelona, which are scheduled for late February/March.

Postponing the race in Australia would likely affect the entire Formula One season calendar. City prizes will understandably be more prone to postponement.

If the Melbourne race is indeed postponed, the season is expected to start in Bahrain at the end of March.
