Six goals, a stormy atmosphere, the game turned three times and the equaliser in the last minute. Feyenoord’s match against Slavia (3: 3) had everything, the highlight of the Conference Europa League quarter-final was undoubtedly Ibrahim Traoré’s 94th minute goal, which irritated the home crowd. What was going on in the De Kuip Arena?
It was not easy for the Slavia players from the opening whistle. Feyenoord fans are among the best in Europe and they proved it on Thursday. For the opening 20 minutes the visiting players looked caught off guard, then they got into the game.
Peter Olayinka’s goal for 1:1 was the turning point of the game. The equalizer should not have stood due to an obvious offside by Yira Sor, but the linesman did not notice the offside and since there is no VAR in the EKL, the goal stood.
The stadium started to boo, the atmosphere got thicker, the Sešiovans had no reason to rush anywhere in the 1:1 (later 2:1) situation, which irritated the home fans.
Feyenoord didn’t give up and broke the game back in their favour with two goals, yet they won’t go to Prague with the lead, as Ibrahim Traoré equalised in the last set minute to make it 3: 3.
The euphoria of the Slavic players once again burst out in full and Traoré and his teammates ran towards the sector of the visiting fans, which was hidden upstairs, under the roof. The celebration of the African midfielder thus irritated the home supporters, who started giving him the middle fingers.
Traoré’s reaction? He took the situation with a smile, enjoyed his moment of glory and responded with three gestures instead of any irritated reaction. First, he signalled for the fans to calm down, then he sent them a clear message to keep quiet by using his raised index finger, and he concluded the whole thing by tapping the Slavic star.
Traoré himself also poked fun at the situation on his Instagram, where he first posted a photo of the goal celebration and then shared a detail of a photo of a home fan looking at him with a raised middle finger and an angry look on his face on his Instagram story.
