The men’s Grand Slam season is also over, so a short analysis of the new edition of the ATP rankings, which traditionally saw many changes after the Big Four tournament, should not be missed. Despite yesterday’s final loss, Novak Djokovic remains the undaunted world number one, followed by Daniil Medvedev scratching his way to the throne.

Moving forward

The new member of the top 10 is Norwegian Casper Ruud, who is very pleased after a great season. However, other youngsters are on his heels, namely Félix Auger-Alliasime (11th) and Jannik Sinner (14th).

Several tennis players scored lifetime highs this week, so we will only focus on a handful of them. Advancing to the fourth round at the US Open, American sharpshooter Reilly Opelka improved 5 spots and will now be ranked 19th in the world.

The heroes of the New York tournament went up more than 10 places. The highest ranked is South African Lloyd Harris, whose steps ended in the quarterfinals on Alexander Zverev’s racket. Kevin Anderson’s successor will now sit in 31st position. Like Harris, youngster Carlos Alcaraz also reached the last eight. He will be the 38th player in the world after jumping 17 positions.

Also working his way up is the only 20-year-old Jenson Brooksby, who probably drew the most attention to himself in his match with the world number one in the US Open eight-finals. He managed to take a set from the Serb, even by 6:1. The promotion to the last 16 means the new 81st place. Just like Brooksby, Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi is 18 places ahead, he is currently 76th.

The biggest jumper is without a doubt Botic Van De Zandschlup. Not only did the Dutchman take a single set from champion Daniil Medvedev, he also has a chance to peek into the world 100. The 25-year-old is 63.

Falls down

Canadian Denis Shapovalov dropped out of the top 10 after a short stay, skipped by the aforementioned Ruud and Auger-Alliasim. While the Canadian saw only a slight drop in places, it was noticeably worse behind him.

For example, Bulgaria’s number one, Grigor Dimitrov, has to endure a fall to 29th position from 18th.

Stan Wawrinka, Borna Ćoric and Jordan Thompson, who are now ranked 49th, 51st and 75th respectively in the ATP rankings, went down by 16 places. Spain’s Pablo Andujar is the biggest faller in the Top 100, dropping 20 places to 94th in the rankings.

Czechs

The hint of the rise of young players in the Czech Republic was unfortunately not confirmed at the US Open as none of the Czech foursome Machac, Kolar, Lehecka, Kopriva advanced to the main event. Only the Czech number 1, Jiri Vesely, played in the tournament and after a great fight with Kevin Anderson he finished in the first round.

Veselý is currently ranked 89th, followed by 143. Tomas Machac, 185. Zdeněk Kolář and 198. Vít Kopriva. The other Czechs are already outside the top 200 players on the planet.
