The UFC returned to Europe, specifically London, on Saturday night with Fight Night 204. Although it was an unnumbered tournament, there was plenty to watch. The awesome atmosphere made for some great fights. How was the UFC in London?

Even though London hosted an unnumbered tournament, the main card in particular was really interesting. However, even the prelims card offered attractive fights and there was no shortage of early finishes.

The prelims card

It was on the prelims card that we saw four fights that went by without scoring judges, with three ending on submission and one on TKO.

The very first fight of the entire tournament was stopped after less than a minute. That’s because Muhammad Mokaev made a fantastic UFC debut, forcing Cody Durden to tap out.

The second early finish was secured by Scottish submission specialist Paul Craig, who finished his sixth UFC fight on a submission. In the welterweight division, in which Jiri Prochazka also fights, only Glover Teixeira, the future opponent of the Moravian fighter, collected them.

Surprisingly, the main referee had to score the first hit in the heavyweight bout, in which Sergej Pavlovic defeated Shamil Abdurakhimov in the first round.

In the last bout of the prelims card, Finnish fighter Makwan Amirkhani put his opponent to sleep.

The main card

There was already a great atmosphere during the prelims card, but it got even better with the main card. For example, former star footballer Wayne Rooney attended the tournament and was able to enjoy a great spectacle in the very first match.

Ilia Torpuria survived many difficult moments in the fight, he withstood a hard head kick, Herbert even knocked out his mouthguard with his knee, yet it was Torpuria who took care of a great and clean knockout.

Molly McCann and Luana Carolina put on a fantastic display of women’s MMA. Especially the home-grown McCann, who wanted to show off her full power to the home fans, stepped in from the start, bombarding her opponent with one hard punch after another. She even showed a beautiful, albeit risky, takedown at the end of the second round.

In the third round, however, she mimicked Jiri Prochazka with a great elbow from the turn and finished her opponent uncompromisingly.

Gunnar Nelson scored a dominant points victory over Takashi Sato.

In the next fight it was the turn of Paddy Pimblett, a rising star of British MMA, whose fight did not even make it to the second round. Although his opponent Kazula Vargas took him down with his quick pressure, Pimblett managed to get to a dominant position from the bottom and moreover to his opponent’s back, whereupon he applied a choke and forced him to tap out.

Arnold Allen put on an absolutely 100 percent performance in the main preliminary match of the tournament, taking on his opponent Dan Hooker at a furious pace.

Although Hooker did not go down, Allen won by TKO after just two minutes and 33 seconds as the referee stopped the fight.

The last and therefore the main event of the night didn’t even make it to the second round. The heavyweight bout was dominated by Tom Aspinall, who won by submission for the second time in his career, defeating Alexander Volkov.
