Atlético Madrid won the derby, Barcelona zero again

The Spanish La Liga ended better for Atlético Madrid, who managed to beat Barcelona 2-0. Thegoals were scored by Thomas Lemar and Luis Suárez.

Atlético was the favourite and deservedly won the match. Barcelona has not been doing well since the departure of Lionel Messi and today we witnessed another poor performance from them.

Atlético Madrid were more active right from the start of the game. At the beginning of the match, they didn’t give the Catalans a sniff of the ball. In the 23rd minute Thomas Lemar scored and Atlético took the lead. After that, Barcelona started to get involved.

However, it was Luis Suárez who put an end to the first half. The player, who also played for Barcelona, increased the score to 2:0 after being completely unguarded in the penalty area. In addition to Suárez, Antoine Griezmann, who was not too long ago for Barcelona, also appeared in an Atlético jersey.

Barcelona were the more active team in the second half. At the end of the game, their possession of the ball was at an incredible 71%. They added 9 shots, but only two went on target. Neither ended in a goal.

Atlético Madrid scored two goals and then took the rest of the game. They did their duty at home and kept the three points. That leaves them trailing Real Madrid. They are in second place despite their last-gasp defeat to second-to-last-placed Alavés.

Barcelona are much worse off. They are only ninth in La Liga. They are five points behind first place Real, who have a game in hand. This was Barcelona’s third away defeat in the league this season.

Both teams will be taking a break as they have national team matches on the schedule. After the break Atlético will play Real Sociedad. Barcelona will try to get points against Valencia.
