Two Spanish clubs have already reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Atlético Madrid will fight for a place in the top four on Wednesday. They are clearly in the worst position before the rematch, having lost their first game 0:1 at Manchester City.
Atletico had a very good performance in March, but after the loss at the Etihad they lost to Levante and moved further away from second place. They reached the quarter-finals from second place in the group, then knocked out Manchester United in the eighth round.
The Citizens didn’t win at the weekend either, drawing at home to Liverpool and staying a point clear of first. They reached the top eight teams in the competition via Sporting Lisbon after dominating their group.
Joao Felix has started to thrive for the Colchoneros side, with the Portuguese striker scoring ten times and assisting five goals. Defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has also put in a pleasing performance in the Champions League.
In the away camp, Kevin de Bruyne is firing, with the Belgian midfielder scoring fourteen times and assisting eight. Raheem Sterling has also started to thrive over the winter, with fourteen goals and seven assists.
Atlético boasts an excellent defensive performance, scoring no more than one goal in the last twelve games.
However, they will have a tough time against Manchester, as the Citizens have scored at least twice in five of their last eight games.
Considering Atlético’s poor display in the last two games, I think Manchester City will win the rematch.
