Atletico are not happy with the first part of the season. In the league, they are eight points behind the league leader Real Madrid in third place. In the Champions League they are third with four points, two points behind second-placed Porto.
Leverkusen are much worse off. They are 15th in the league, only one point ahead of the barrage and two points from outright relegation. They just beat Atletico at home in the Champions League, and are three points behind relegated Porto from last place.
Antoine Griezmann is coming into good form, the French international striker has scored six times and assisted three times. Experienced Spaniard Álvaro Morata scored five goals and assisted one.
The visitors’ outside back Jeremie Frimpong has been unusually productive, with the Dutch youth international scoring five times and assisting twice. Frenchman Moussa Diaby scored three times and assisted four times.
Atletico have struggled in the long run. In the LM it is gambling with promotion, in La Liga it is probably out of the title race, on the other hand it has lost only one of its last seven games.
Leverkusen are pulling the opposite streak, winning only one of their last seven competitive games. The Bundesliga in particular is a misery, winning only twice in 11 rounds.
Given the poor away form, I think an improving Atletico will win. I also believe in him thanks to the frame of mind of Griezmann, who has scored five times in the last five games.
