Atalanta will play an important match in the battle for the cups on Monday at home to Hellas Verona. Neither team is in ideal form, with the Black and Blues especially in need of three points. What to expect from the match?
Atalanta are struggling, having lost three of their last four games, they have also managed to drop out of the Europa League, from which they were sent away by German Leipzig. They are only eighth in the table, six points behind fifth-placed AS Roma with a game to spare.
Hellas are not doing as well as expected either, winning only one of their last five league games and missing out on cup chances. From tenth place, they are eleven points behind sixth-placed Fiorentina, all with six rounds to go.
The mainstay of the home side is Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic, through all competitions he has scored ten goals and assisted nine times. Colombian playmaker Luis Muriel has also scored ten times and assisted five goals.
The visitors rely on the Argentine-Czech pairing. Giovanni Simeone has sixteen goals and four assists, while Antonín Barák has netted ten times and assisted on four goals.
The term Atalanta offensive machine is far from valid this year, the team from Bergamo has scored only four goals in the last seven games, three times coming up empty.
However, Hellas are also struggling offensively, the form of both Barak and Simeone is gone and the Verona side have made four goals in the last five rounds.
Given the poor form of the visiting offense, I think Atalanta will win at home.
