Aston Villa have strengthened massively in the summer like last year, while again like last year they remain far behind expectations so far. Three points from three games – that’s not a satisfactory result, and Aston Villa also suffered losses to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, with whom it was at least possible to draw.
West Ham are even worse off. After an expected home loss to Manchester City, it fell away to newcomer Nottingham Forest and again at home to upstart Brighton. Zero points, zero goals scored and last place in the table.
Star Ollie Watkins has been on the scoresheet for all three Villans goals so far, scoring once and assisting twice from the top of the attack. In goal, Argentine international Emiliano Martinez is trying to work his magic behind a poorly performing defence.
With Michail Antonio’s terrible form, the away fans are eager to bring in summer signing Gianluca Scamacca. He has already made his presence felt with two goals in Conference League qualifying. Last season’s star Jarrod Bowen is also struggling, having only scored against Viborg so far.
Aston Villa relies on a goal scoring offense, scoring more than once in six of their last eight games. On the other hand, the defence often suffers.
West Ham, on the other hand, have come up empty in four of their last six games, scoring only twice, against Viborg (3: 1, 3: 0).
Considering the good tune-up for the match against Viborg, I think West Ham will not lose at Aston Villa’s ground, which has not played well at all so far.
