Aston Villa vs. Southampton: Preview and betting tips

Aston Villa welcome Southampton in Friday’s Premier League Round 7 preview. The home side are struggling despite a very good squad, while the visitors are in the middle of the table. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?

Aston Villa are not at all happy with the start of the season. After six rounds, they have only four points, beating only Everton so far. They are seventeenth in the table only a point above relegation and three points off the last place.

Southampton, on the other hand, take their seven points. It has already played games against Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea, is twelfth in the table and is only three points behind sixth place. It has been a tough start to the season, now the lot will be easier.

Ollie Watkins is the main offensive weapon of the home team, the English forward has scored once and assisted twice. Philippe Coutinho is struggling compared to last season, his performance is half-hearted, he played only 49% of the game time and was not involved in any goals.

On the away side, James Ward-Prowse is worth mentioning, the national midfielder opened the net once and assisted once. Defensively, Armel Bella-Kotchap shines as the Bundesliga reinforcement impresses with his quick feet and accurate defensive saves.

Aston Villa have struggled offensively, scoring more than once in only one of their last five games, and that was in the cup against third-tier Bolton. At home, on the other hand, the Villans have lost only one of their last four games.

But Southampton are not happy either, they have not scored at all in two of their last three games and have won only two of their last eleven encounters on their opponents’ ground. Most of its points have come at home, with the small stadium almost always full by English standards.

Considering Aston Villa’s home form, I think the home side with a much better squad will win and break the slump.
