A very interesting spectacle promises to be the eighth final duel of the Madrid tournament between Ashleigh Barty and Iga Swiatek. Will the world number one lose her six-match unbeaten streak?
Twenty-five-year-old Australian Ashleigh Barty is at the top of the WTA rankings with 9560 points. She is also the best of all tennis players in 2021, having scored 2591 points so far.
During this year, Barty has played 25 matches, finding an opponent in only three cases. Barty has dominated the event in Melbourne, Miami and Stuttgart. Now she would like to add her first Madrid triumph to her collection.
Iga Swiatek will be her opponent in the eighth round. Only 19 years old, the Pole is ranked 15th on the WTA circuit. Should she win the Masters tournament, she could be among the elite ten for the first time ever.
Antuk is the favourite surface for the winner of last year’s French Open. In the Spanish capital, Alison Riske and Laura Siegemund proved it. Swiatek allowed her opponents only eight games between them.
The clash between these opponents should be the most interesting thing the Mutua Madrid Opne Eight Finals has to offer for the unbiased spectator. The match is scheduled to start at 19:00 and will be televised on O2 TV Tennis.
