The women’s final of the Australian Open is here! Fans at Rod Laver Arena can look forward to a battle between Ashleigh Barty and Danielle Rose Collins. Will the world number one succeed on home soil and claim the third Grand Slam triumph of her career?
Ashleigh Barty is a 25-year-old tennis player. She is currently at the top of the WTA rankings with a fairly large lead over second-placed Aryna Sabalenka. Her previous best at the Australian Open was the semifinals in 2020. So she has already managed to improve this statistic.
The world number one is making perfect use of the home crowd this year. In fact, during her journey to the final, she did not lose a single set and did not even have to play a tiebreak. This is a perfect follow-up to her performance in Adelaide, where she won the title.
Her opponent on Saturday will be twenty-eight-year-old Danielle Rose Collins. The 28-year-old American player is currently ranked 30th in the WTA rankings. However, her performance at the opening Grand Slam of the season has secured her promotion to the top ten tennis players in the world.
Her final appearance is probably a huge surprise for everyone. The Florida native knocked out Swiatek, Cornet and Mertens. She allowed her opponents only two sets.
The players know each other quite well, as this will be their fifth time playing against each other. Barty is in a better position, having managed to win on three occasions. She will be a huge favourite on Saturday as well, when she will have the home advantage.
Barty is also the paper favourite because she has spent less time on court. However, her psyche may also play a role, which is also on the side of the Australian – she undoubtedly has more experience with similar matches. So she should strengthen her position as the world number one even more.
