AS Roma confirmed the arrival of a new coach on Tuesday afternoon. A few hours ago, the management of the famous Italian club officially fired the current manager Jose Mourinho. Daniele De Rossi, who is also a Giallorossi player legend, has been appointed as the new coach of the A-team.

José Mourinho finally leaves AS Roma after about two and a half years. In fact, the club announced on Tuesday morning that they are cancelling the Portuguese’s contract with immediate effect. The Portuguese strategist became the coach of AS Roma in May 2021.

However, his greatest success with the famous Italian club was in the European Cup, not in domestic competition. The Giallorossi won the Conference League in the 2021/22 season and reached the Europa League final last year, but lost to Sevilla on penalties.

This year, his coaching chair began to sway over the star manager, with the board not liking the team’s performance.

In terms of concrete results and numbers, the Giallorossi are only ninth with 29 points after 20 rounds, having crashed out against Lazio in the Coppa Italia. In the Europa League, they did qualify for the knockout stage, but only from second place after Slavia Prague.

So on Tuesday, January 16, that coaching chair broke completely under Mourinho, whereupon it didn’t take the club’s management long to bring in a replacement. The new coach was confirmed today, the same day, but for a change in the afternoon.

De Rossi new AS Roma coach

AS Roma has thus officially confirmed that the new A-team coach will be the player legend Daniele De Rossi. The graduate of the Rome academy played 616 competitive matches in the colours of the famous Italian club and scored a total of 63 goals.

De Rossi is therefore returning to Rome, but this time in a completely different role. The role of manager or head coach. He will make his debut in Saturday’s Serie A match, in which AS face Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.

After his retirement from football, De Rossi joined the Italian national team’s coaching staff and celebrated the 2021 Euro win with them. Last season, he took over as head coach of then second division club SPAL.
