AS Roma managed to win the 22nd round of Serie A at Salernitana. The match was uninteresting in the first half, after the change of sides, Paulo Dybala’s penalty kick-started the better minutes. In the end, the Romans won 2: 1 and jumped into the Top 5.
The beginning of the match was full of inaccuracies from both sides, especially in front of both whitewalls the offensive players panicked. It was only in the 17th minute that Romelu Lukaku decided to shoot, but the home defence made a successful block and didn’t let the ball go any further.
On the other side, veteran Antonio Candreva finished after an individual action, but he did not get the ball between the three posts. In the 31st minute, Domagoj Bradaric tested the Roma goalkeeper, but Rui Patrício made a successful save.
The experienced goalkeeper also succeeded a minute later when he headed Loume Tchaouna’s attempt towards the left post. A good passage of play by the underdog was finished off by a shot from Candreva. This time his aim was better than a few minutes ago, but this time he missed Patricio’s net.
After the change of sides, AS Roma did claim victory.
The half-time score was 0:0 after a zero performance by the Romans. But the favourite was brought back into the match by the opponent. Specifically, in the 49th minute, Giulio Maggiore played his hand in the penalty area and the head referee uncompromisingly pointed to the white spot.
Paulo Dybala, who had been invisible until then, took the ball and opened the scoring with a shot to the left post. On the other side, Sima could have equalised with a header after Candreva’s centre, but he sent the ball just over Patricio’s goal.
On the other hand, in the 66th minute, the Romans added a second goal, Lorenzo Pellegrini closed the game from an easy position. However, the two-goal lead lasted only four minutes before Grigoris Kastanos reduced it to 1:2 with a precise header to the left post.
Salernitana locked the Romans in the defensive half at the end, but Rui Patrício sealed their best chance in the second minute of stoppage time. AS jumped to fifth place with the win, just a point behind fourth-placed Atalanta. Salernitana remain last. Since the departure of Jose Mourinho, the team remains 100%.
