AS Roma managed to lure another big name to the team after Paulo Dybala. José Mourinho will be able to count on the services of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum in the new season, who is on his way to Roma, where he will be on loan for at least one season.
Wijnaldum left Liverpool last season, with whom he refused to sign a new contract, and headed to PSG as a new player. He didn’t earn a solid place in the Parisian side, playing 21 games in Ligue 1, five in the Champions League, and missing the decisive double-header against Real Madrid, watching his players only from the bench.
In total, he played 38 games for PSG last season, but only managed to score 3 times, adding 3 assists on goal. But of course, goals are not what is expected from Wijnaldum. He had similar numbers at Liverpool, but there he featured much more often.
the 31-year-old Rotterdam native has signed a contract with PSG until 2024. However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano informed football fans that Wijnaldum is heading to Rome, where he will have a medical tomorrow, after which he is expected to sign a contract with AS.
However, it should only be a loan deal, with Mourinho’s employer having the option to buy the Dutch midfielder for €8 million next year.
The Roman outfit is thus becoming a Serie A dark horse, thanks to many great signings (Zeki Celik, Nemanja Matic and Paulo Dybala) and with Mourinho at the helm, which could and probably will compete with both Milan and Juventus for the top positions.
Moreover, Wijnaldum is a great boost for Mourinho as he has quality defensive and attacking players at his disposal in the middle of the park, but a versatile player like the Dutch footballer, plus a lot of experience, will definitely be a big help.
At least that’s what AS fans, who are already looking forward to the first start of their darlings, are hoping for. They will see it on August 14, when they will have the opportunity to visit Salermo, where the US Salernitana 1919 team is based.
