AS Roma went into the national break after two losses, which was understandably not a favourable situation. Jose Mourinho’s charges thus had a lot to make amends for when they returned to club football and were successful. In fact, they swept Sampdoria Genoa. But the fans racially abused the opposing coach. It is the former ward of the Portuguese strategist who reacted in the match.

The situation in Serie A? Not counting the heavily outclassed Napoli at the top, extremely even. In the final rounds, there are still tough battles to be fought not only for places in the European Cups, but also for retention.

AS Roma are fighting for the Champions League, but have lost their last two games. After the national break, it had a lot to make up for and the luck was against it when the penultimate team, Sampdoria Genoa, visited the Eternal City.

The match was a clear indication of whose side had the quality. The Romans won 3: 0 and there was not much to be done. Jose Mourinho is now dragging his team towards their dream goal. AS Roma are now in fifth position, however, fourth placed Inter have the same number of points, second placed Lazio are five points better off.

In addition, Juventus are still eager to get involved and are now only six points behind fourth place. An impressive feat considering the 15-point deduction.

But more than Rome’s win, it was the racism of its fans that was addressed. They insulted Sampdoria coach Dejan Stankovic during the match, which was also noted by Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach knows Stankovic very well. After all, the Serb was his ward in the past. At Inter Milan, they walked together for the historic treble in 2010. That is why Mourinho made a clear gesture towards the fans. He wanted them to stop.

After the game, Mourinho explained that Stankovic is a great man and a great friend who has children and a family. “It was not nice at all. Our fans are great, but don’t touch my friends,” the Portuguese explained.

Stankovic appreciated Mourinho’s gesture and thanked him in return. “As for the chants… I am proud of who I am. I am proud to be Roma,” Stankovic concluded the topic.
