Aryna Sabalenka regained the Australian Open! This time she didn’t lose a single set

Aryna Sabalenka was in great form at the opening Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 calendar year. She didn’t even lose a single set during the seven matches she played and deservedly managed to defend last year’s title.

For Qinwen Zheng, this year’s Australian Open was the first time she faced a player who belongs to the elite 50 in the WTA rankings. So the Chinese player made the most of a favourable draw.

However, the twenty-one year old tennis player showed great nervousness during the opening game, which the Belarusian took advantage of perfectly and quickly took the lead with a break advantage.

In the third game, Sabalenka offered her opponent three opportunities to break. But she was unable to take advantage of any of them. After that, the defending champion held her serve without any major complications and won the first set 6:3.

Also at the beginning of the second set, the 15th player in the WTA rankings lost her serve, which is a huge complication against the great Sabalenka, who is almost flawless on her serve.

Zheng was also convinced of this, as she only had one breakball opportunity in the second set, but again she was unable to take advantage of it. She lost her serve in the fifth game of the second set. The second set ended 6:2.

The 25-year-old confirmed her role as a huge favourite and won their second match. The match lasted only 76 minutes. The main factor was that Sabelkova won 84% of the exchanges after her first serve.

The Belarusian took perfect advantage of the fact that both Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina had dropped out in the earlier stages of the tournament. Sablenkova thus won her second Grand Slam title, again in Melbourne.
