Arthur comes to Liverpool to sort out problems in midfield. Will he finally fulfil his potential?

A host of injured midfielders forced Liverpool to act, bringing Arthur from Juventus on a one-year loan. The fact that he is really only counting on him for this season is evidenced by the fact that the contract does not contain any option. But if the Brazilian midfielder finally gets fit, the Reds management might change their minds after all.

A host of injured midfielders forced Liverpool to act, bringing Arthur from Juventus on a one-year loan. The fact that he is really only counting on him for this season is evidenced by the fact that the contract does not include any option. But if the Brazilian midfielder finally gets fit, the Reds management might change their minds after all.

Liverpool’s start to the new season is certainly not as Jurgen Klopp expected. But in the last two rounds, the Reds have already scored full points, although it must be noted that in the last game against Newcastle, they really let it come down to the last moment, in which Fabio Carvalho scored three points.

Injured midfielders are mainly to blame for these unconvincing performances. Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out, and Jordan Henderson was also injured on Wednesday.

It’s a bit reminiscent of the Reds’ former failed run when they had almost all of their central defenders injured, now the problem is similar, only in midfield.

That’s why the team around the German coach decided to intervene and brought in Arthur on loan, who is very similar in type to Thiago, who was one of Liverpool’s highest rated players last season.

When Arthur came to Barcelona in the summer of 2018, who paid Gremio €31 million for him, a lot was indeed expected of him.

Only that the Brazilian midfielder, who is 171 centimetres tall, fell victim to the tragic situation at the club (just like Juventus later on, Liverpool will thus be the first club not in crisis or in rebuilding) and never really stood out properly, although the glimpses were there!

Juventus also saw great potential in him, for whom he played 63 games over two years, in which he even managed to make one appearance, namely in a league game against Bologna (January 2021). However, before Arthur could play, an injury occurred and even the Old Lady cannot be happy about his arrival.

The Brazilian midfielder, who is very good on the ball and can send in amazing passes, so he follows in the footsteps of his former teammate Dejan Kulusevski, whose excellent left foot sets up scoring chances for his teammates in Tottenham, and will try the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Klopp has been sticking a hole through the injured players with Harvey Elliott, however, despite very good performances, he is still a youngster with no experience and not much to build on. However, with so many injuries, we will surely see the Arthur – Fabinho – Elliott trio in the middle of the park. Of course, James Milner will also still be available.

Already on Saturday, Liverpool will face a derby with Everton, who are much worse off. It will therefore be interesting to see when Arthur will take the field. The Brazilian midfielder could become a very valid player for the Reds and finally fulfil his potential he came to Europe with.
