Arteta and Real Madrid? I’m happy here, says Spanish coach

Mikel Arteta has done a lot of work since his return to the club, this time as head coach of the A-team. And, of course, there are results behind him. After many years, the Gunners are in contention for the league title. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have not yet built on last season and speculation is starting to swirl about what’s next for Carlo Ancelotti.

The Spanish detail man is only at the beginning of his coaching career. Before returning to the Emirates Stadium, he spent 3.5 years as an assistant at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. And compared to the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, he chose the right path.

Both of the aforementioned have jumped into the coaching craft headfirst, and it must be said that neither has been successful so far. However, in Arteta’s case, it is a different story. He has learned a lot at the Citizens and is currently leading the Premier League with Arsenal.

The Canaries will face the opening game of the Europa League semi-final at Sporting Lisbon today . The English side is considered the favourite for the double-header, although the bench is likely to make a few changes compared to the league clashes.

At the pre-match press conference, the Spanish coach was asked about Real Madrid. With the most successful team in the Champions League history not having the current season going to plan, speculation is rife about the possible end of Carlo Ancelotti.

“I am excited, grateful and really, really happy today,” Arteta said when asked if he would like to take the helm on the Real bench next season. “When I spoke to Josh [Kroenke], he saw the club at the same point as me and wanted to take the club forward the way I wanted to. And he did that,” he added.

“These are things that managers or players cannot control,” Arteta continued regarding the speculation linked to his name. And no wonder, the former Gunners player loves this club, and even when he was sitting on the Manchester City bench, he didn’t celebrate the goals scored in the Arsenal net.

Pep Guardiola himself recently let it be known that he was clear about the Arteta-Gunners connection. “When we scored a goal, he always jumped up. Except in one-team games. He was sitting there and I thought: This guy likes Arsenal.”
