Arsenal’s uncreative offense. Even Luton has a statistically more dangerous attack

Last season, the first 16 rounds were lost by only four points, but this season he is already on -9 points after 11 games. Arsenal are not experiencing an ideal start to the league season, the reason is also poor productivity and general action creation.

A lot has been written about Arsenal in the last week. Firstly, it has lost twice (1: 3 at West Ham, 0: 1 at Newcastle), while its players and fans have felt aggrieved by the referees’ verdicts.

Against the Hammers, Tomas Soucek’s unforced foul on Ben White’s own goal was discussed, at Newcastle the decisions against the Gunners were so much that Arsenal captain Jorginho refused to shake hands with opposing captain Jamal Lascelles after the final whistle.

In any case, Arsenal were no better in either of those games. At Newcastle, Mikel Arteta’s charges did send 14 attempts, but only one of them flew between the three posts. And already that reveals the Gunners’ problem.

Arsenal have created only 13 big chances in 11 rounds. Only four teams have done worse. Sheffield are the worst with five, Fulham and Bournemouth are on ten and Burnley have had 11 big opportunities.

In the final, it means that even the biggest outsider in the competition according to pre-season predictions, Luton, had more chances saved – 16 to be precise. And the vast majority of its squad is playing Premier League football for the first time in their careers this season.

Arsenal are behind in other aspects too. An average of 14.4 shots per game is only ninth best in the league, 5.3 attempts on target is good enough for seventh and 7.9 shots from inside the penalty area per round is only the 11th best average.

The reasons aren’t easy to find. Bukayo Saka is not as dominant as last year, Gabriel Jesus is struggling with injuries, and according to many, Granit Xhaka is missing. He could definitely fire from outside the box, something the Gunners have lacked so far this year.
