Arsenal enter the new year with a seven-point lead at the top of the table. They will face the third team in the table, Newcastle have won six of the last seven rounds.
Arsenal managed to win the two Premier League games in December by six points and increased their lead at the top of the table. It already has a seven-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, with only one loss and a draw so far.
First, Newcastle won at Leicester sovereignly 3: 0, but only drew goalless at home with Leeds. Despite this, they remain third, but they have only a four-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham, while sixth-placed Liverpool and seventh-placed Chelsea also have a chance.
Arsenal’s key figures
Martin Odegaard, the home captain, is having the season of his life, scoring seven goals and three assists. He is backed up by a superb pairing of Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, with the Ghanaian worker shining in particular after the national break.
Newcastle’s key players
The dashing Miguel Almirón has been firing it up in a black and white jersey this season, alongside nine shots and one assist. Kieran Trippier shines on the right side of defence, the executor of standard situations has scored once and assisted on six goals.
Arsenal rely on a goal-scoring attack, scoring more than once in five of their last six games. At the same time, the entire offensive trio of Gabriel Martinelli, Edie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka scored in both December rounds.
On the other hand, Newcastle’s defense is an impregnable fortress. It has conceded only eleven times in the Premier League, the fewest of any team. In the last seven games, the Magpies have been awarded one goal.
Considering the comfort in Arsenal’s squad, which was shown among other things by the quick goal at Brighton, and the fact that the Gunners have not lost a point at the Emitates Stadium, I think Arsenal will win.
