Arsenal won the 28th round of the Premier League, beating Brentford 2-1 at home. The London derby was evenly matched until the last minutes, decided by the man of the moment Kai Havertz.

The Gunners went into the game with a perhaps surprisingly strong line-up, needing to beat Porto in the Champions League eight-final rematch on Tuesday. Only Gabriel Martinelli, who was substituted in the last round against Sheffield due to an ankle injury, was missing.

Mikel Arteta’s super-goalkeeper Leandro Trossard was given a chance in the starting line-up. However, the visitors were more active in the match and had several chances. However, he didn’t get a dangerous shot and Arsenal slowly got into the pace.

Ivan Toney sent in the first shot of the game, but Aaron Ramsdale had an easy job. At the other end, there was celebration in the 18th minute, Ben White’s centre was headed into the net by Declan Rice and the Gunners took their first serious chance.

Two Kai Havertz chances followed. In the first, the German international headed into the middle of the net, while the second, which could be described as a certainty, ended with an inaccurate lob. The ball flew past the right post of Mark Flekken’s goal.

Arsenal get another win with a goal late on

When it seemed that the half was over, Ramsdale hesitated too much with his cross and Yoane Wissa slipped the ball into the net. Arsenal were active after the change of sides, but Bukayo Saka’s shot was very inaccurate.

Brentford then had a good passage of play, but Ivan Toney’s superb long-range shot from 40 yards was cleared out for a corner by Ramsdale. Nathan Collins then had a chance, but the England international flashed another save.

Arsenal still couldn’t get the pressure on, Rice’s 71st-minute clutch was a rare chance. In the 85th minute, however, the Gunners celebrated after all, Kai Havertz’s header splitting the net. Arsenal finished the game expertly and won 2-1.

The scoreboard is at least first for the day, a point ahead of Liverpool. Brentford remain five points above the relegation zone.
