Arsenal have increased their lead at the top of the table, but they still have no thoughts of the title. We’re focused on the next game, from the Emirates Stadium
Arsenal and the Premier League title? Not very believable a season ago, but it doesn’t look too bad now. Moreover, Manchester City lost points on Saturday, while the Gunners won again, allowing them to enjoy an even bigger lead. However, they are still not thinking about the title.

New Year’s Eve afternoon brought several interesting matches in the Premier League and we also saw some surprising results. The least expected was the draw between Manchester City and Everton.
The Toffees were clearly the worse team throughout the match, only the Citizens couldn’t make more than one goal out of their game dominance, which was taken care of by Erling Haaland. Demarai Gray then equalised with a superb strike.
For Pep Guardiola’s charges, it was the second point loss in the last five league games. Before the start of the World Cup, they fell short to Brentford. Arsenal took advantage of that, who beat Brighton on Saturday and added a fifth win in a row.
Overall, it was the fourteenth win for the Gunners in the round of 16 and they already have a seven-point lead over Manchester City. They will be looking to at least defend that lead on Tuesday when they welcome a rampant Newcastle to Emirates Stadium, while Manchester City face Chelsea.
However, the London side are not thinking about the title just yet. According to coach Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s lead means nothing. “We have to perform at the highest level. There are a lot of things we need to improve, especially in defence. We still have things to work on,” the BBC quotes him as saying.
“It sounds amazing. Of course, if you’d asked us at the start of the season if we wanted to be in that position, we’d probably have bitten your hand off. We’re really happy for that, it’s great, we’ve put ourselves in an excellent position,” Bukayo Saka did not hide his excitement.
Like Arteta, however, he is not thinking about the title for now. He is concentrating on the next game. If only because of how well Newcastle are playing this season.
