North London’s Arsenal enter another title fight. With Mikel Arteta looking to spice things up, we can expect a busy transfer window at the Emirates Stadium. The first signing for the Gunners is Ricardo Califiori, with the coaching staff working hard on other signings. But arrivals also mean departures. Which players are on the chopping block?

  • Arsenal are working on a squad renewal
  • Over six players could leave the Emirates Stadium
  • Outflow of youngsters

Arsenal are limping along in the transfer market compared to the competition so far, with only Italian Califiori joining the team in the near future. However, there are more players in the Gunners’ sights. However, in order for the Gunners to sign more players, they will need to clean up the squad. The spectrum of players who could leave North London is numerous, especially the so-called Home Grown Players.

The first who could leave Arsenal is goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The twenty-six year old Englishman has lost his position as number one between the three sticks and is certainly not happy with the eleven games he played last season. David Raya is the clear favourite for Arteta, so the Albion goalkeeper has no choice but to look for a new deal.

Newcastle have shown interest among England’s elite. A move abroad is not out of the question. Arsenal paid Sheffield United 24 million pounds in August 2021, at least a similar amount the Gunners would demand now.

The arrival of Calafiori will also change the proportions in defence. Up to five players will be able to start at left-back. Thus, speculations about the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Yakub Kiwior started immediately.

Bayern Munich have shown interest in the Ukrainian defender, and the Polish international could head back to Serie A, specifically the San Siro. Arsenal would welcome a permanent transfer in the case of the Ukrainian, while in the case of Kiwior it would be a guest appearance with an option.

However, what scares Gunners supporters the most is the potential departure of Emil Smith-Rowe. The club’s offspring had a successful 2021/2022 season, scoring ten league goals. He hasn’t lived up to that ambition since then, also due to health issues.

Even so, the 23-year-old Englishman shows promise for the future. But Arsenal could be swayed into selling by the transfer fee, with Fulham offering up to £35m.

A question mark over his next destination also hangs over other Englishmen in Arsenal’s employ. Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson have certainly not lived up to the expectations of the coaching staff. Even the football public is not very supportive of both players.

Arsenal would need to sour the offensive ranks, therefore selling Nketiah and Nelson would contribute considerable sums to the transfer budget. Olympique Marseille have shown interest in Nketiah, while Nelson is interested in the London Stadium.

For each player, the Gunners could receive £25-30m, which Arteta would use to buy a better quality winger, winger or midfielder.
