Arab fans under criticism! Beckenbauer’s disrespect on Kroos retaliation
The Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atlético always has a lot of momentum, but this time it was played on neutral ground. The atmosphere was really special, the fans in Saudi Arabia were not bored anyway. Eight goals, however, is not the main thing that is being addressed the day after Real Madrid’s triumph.
The Madrid derby between Real and Atlético always has a lot of momentum, but this time it was played on neutral ground. The atmosphere was really special, the fans in Saudi Arabia were not bored anyway. Eight goals, however, is not the main thing that is being addressed the day after Real Madrid’s triumph. Arab fans booed on Toni Kroos.
The essential action started before the opening whistle. The Arab fans refused to honour the memory of Franz Beckenbauer, opting to boo instead of a minute’s silence, a move that aroused great resentment among spectators around the world.
Kroos family was not forgotten in Arabia
“Embarrassing!” Just one word commenting on the departure of the talent Gabriel Viega from the Spanish La Liga to Saudi Arabia and Toni Kroos became the enemy of the Arab world. The German international was reacting to the numerous departures of stars from Europe in search of better earnings.
In addition to the minute’s silence for Beckenbauer, whistles were blown every time Kroos touched the ball. “Anyone who does this at a sporting event cannot like football. You have zero respect for legends, you should be ashamed of yourselves and the nation,” wrote fan Baran in a liked comment under Kroos’ Instagram post.
“The booing and whistling was a reaction to the unprofessionalism and statement against the Arab world. You have to respect all cultures,” Arab Alwaleed Salah explained to Kroos. “He said it is fatal that young players leave for money, this is not an attack on your culture,” responded Real supporter Alex.
Goals just as bizarre
A brief word on the match itself. Of the eight goals, many of them matched the strange behaviour of the crowd. Perhaps the funniest was Antonio Rudiger’s own goal to make it 3:2 for Atlético, at which point Alvaro Morata had no idea how the ball had got into the net.
Real were also lucky. Stefan Savic’s decisive own goal was also from the category of chance, even the equalizer itself at 3:3 came after several lucky bounces. And the game was symbolically closed by Jan Oblak’s sprinting through and hitting the empty net.
