In the latest photos viewable on social media, Ansu Fati showed the special cross he wears. However, this does not seem to have a significant impact in terms of religious connection.
The cross he wears around his neck is the Anch, or Egyptian key. It is known as a symbol of eternal life. During the spread of Christianity, for example, Christians in distant Egypt adopted this symbol.
We can talk about the fact that sometimes it was actually used as a variation of the Christian cross, but nowadays it has a rather neutral meaning. It is the most widely used symbol of African origin in the Western world.
19-year-old Fati is originally from Guinea-Bissau. Just four years before his birth, civil war and a subsequent military coup broke out in that African country. When Fati was six years old, he moved with his parents to Seville, Spain.
Fearing for the safety of their children, they set out to seek a new life in Europe. As for religion, Ansu is a Muslim. He revealed this in one of the last interviews he gave to the media in the spring.
