Another twist in the Mbappé case. Player to stay at PSG, will he sign a new contract?
As reported by L’Équipe, PSG striker Kylian Mbappé will stay with the Ligue 1 champions this summer after a transfer window full of speculation over his future. Mbappé, now 24, was excluded from coach Luis Enrique’s squad during pre-season and forced to train with so-called ‘undesirables’ who were deemed surplus to requirements by the club. The France captain was not included on PSG’s recent tour of Asia because Paris bosses believed he had an agreement to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract next summer after sending a letter to the club stating he would not sign another contract (or be transferred this summer) and would therefore leave for free.
However, it emerged today that Mbappé has rejoined the senior squad following yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Lorient, with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi personally informing the group of the change at the club’s new training ground this morning. He told the players that “Kylian is invested in the club” and is now at Enrique’s disposal again. Mbappé confirmed that he won’t leave for free internally to club officials, but ironically that doesn’t mean he will sign a new contract – although reports suggest he is open to the idea. However, he is now expected to stay at PSG this summer and should not be re-shuffled before the end of this term, the sports daily confirmed, with the striker expected to return against Toulouse next week.
Kylian Mbappé is enjoying the best period of his career. PSG refuse to let him go for a year as a free agent, he did not want to sign a new contract, his current one expires next summer. So he was dropped from the squad, but now he’s back. What’s next for him?
The Parisians played their first game of the new Ligue 1 season on Saturday and it can’t be said that it ended successfully. The first competitive match under new coach Luis Enrique ended in a goalless draw.
PSG’s toothless offensive was easily held off by Lorient, a mediocre side in the top French league. Kylian Mbappé, the man who was left out of the squad, watched the game from the stands, alongside new signing Ousmane Dembélé.
Mbappé has only a one-year contract and refused to sign a new one. PSG have therefore decided to try to sell him at any cost, even to Saudi Arabia. It didn’t work, the Frenchman refused. In addition, the club believes he is agreed on a contract with Real Madrid, where he could leave for free in a year.
But now the situation is different. Because after Saturday’s draw, PSG announced on Sunday morning that they can include the player back in the squad after positive and constructive negotiations with Mbappé.
It is therefore expected that we will see the French international in the Parisian squad next week against Toulouse.
But what’s next? L’Équipe reports that Mbappé will remain in Paris for the rest of the season. The footballer himself is said to have assured the club’s management that he definitely has no plans to leave the club for free.
However, this does not mean that he will sign a new contract. However, various media outlets are divided on this information. Sky Sports, for example, expects a new contract to be signed.
