Vasil Kusej was one of the discoveries of the spring part of last season. In Mladá Boleslav he impressed with his hellish speed and four goals. There were speculations about Sparta and Slavia’s interest, but in the end he should head to the Netherlands.

Vasil Kusej was considered a great talent from a young age. At the age of 15 he left Ústí nad Labem for Dresden, where he went through the entire youth. Despite his excellent statistics in the U19 team, he did not make it to the U19 team.

In 2019 he went on loan to the Austrian second league Innsbruck, where he played only four games. His career stalled at that point and Kusej chose to return home.

He played twenty-five games for Ústí nad Labem in the FNL in the 2020/21 season and scored two goals. But he didn’t stay in his hometown and chose a surprising departure to the other side of the country, to Prostějov.

There he found himself, in a season and a half he played 30 games, scored 9 goals and attracted the interest of first league clubs. There was a lot of talk about Sigma Olomouc and Baník, but Kušej eventually chose Mladá Boleslav.

He didn’t make his first start in the top Czech league until he was 22 at the beginning of 2023, but it was worth it. Kušej played sixteen games during the spring season, scored four goals and impressed with his tremendous speed, especially against Sparta and Slavia. He also showed a good performance at the EURO U21.

There were speculations about the interest of Prague “S”, but one of the obstacles was the price. Mladá Boleslav was reportedly asking up to 50 million crowns for its most valuable export. The new season started in Lokotrans arena again.

But probably not for long. According to the latest information, Kušej is no longer in the nomination for this weekend’s match at Slovácko, as his transfer to Utrecht in the Netherlands is being finalized.
