Tomas Vaclik must have come away from the summer in a bit of a shock in the Olympiakos cabin. His new teammate is the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history, Brazilian phenom Marcelo. And now he’ll add another star signing with a Real Madrid past.
Tomas Vaclik must have come away from the summer in a bit of a shock in the Olympiakos cabin. His new teammate is the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history, Brazilian phenom Marcelo. And now he’ll add another star signing with a Real Madrid past.
The star reinforcement will be James Rodriguez, who Real Madrid bought in the summer of 2014 for 75 million euros. In the white jersey, the Colombian won the Champions League twice, played 125 games in which he scored 37 goals and added 42 assists.
While Marcelo is going to Olympiakos just to finish his rich career, for James it is a return to Europe. After a spell at Everton, he’s off to Qatar in the summer of 2021 at just 30 years old. He played 15 games for Al-Rayaan with a record of 5+7.
However, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, his return to Europe is imminent. The Colombian is expected to fly to Greece today, undergo a medical and sign a one-year loan deal.
In the red and white jersey, he will reunite with his great friend and former Real Madrid teammate, Marcelo. There are also other stars in the team, such as 37-year-old Frenchman Mathieu Valbuena, former Dortmund and Arsenal stopper Sokratis Papastathopoulos and, until last season, Atlético Madrid player Sime Vrsaljko.
There should be no problem with acclimatization, because the team is led by the Spaniard Carlos Coberan, so the language barrier is eliminated. There are also two other Spaniards in the team.
Olympiakos has really armed itself with big names, now it has to confirm it in the Europa League. It has Nantes, Freiburg and Karabakh in its group, and lost its first match against the French opponents 1: 2.
