Another rule change in F1! Drivers will have more work to do with warming up tyres

A few days ago, Formula 1 came up with a new power unit specification that will come into effect from the 2026 season. Now the queen of motorsport has unveiled another new feature. From 2024, the heating blankets that helped drivers keep their tyres warm will be banned.
Until now, drivers had a big advantage, especially during pit stops and at the start of the race, when drivers could have pre-heated tyres on the grid.
This is because when changing tyres, the drivers were given warmed up equipment and could work with the wheels faster. Starting in the 2024 season, the drivers have a tough job ahead of them.
In fact, the ideal tire temperature is somewhere around 90 degrees, and at the moment it is preheating to 70 degrees Celsius. If the drivers get into a colder race, they’re in for formula hell.
Because even preheated tyres can sometimes cause problems for the drivers. An example of this was at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, where the hardest set on any monopost didn’t reach operating temperature and virtually everyone had their hands full warming up the white marked set at the start.
The new 18-inch tyres also played a part. These also need more time to warm up and without the blankets it will be a very difficult job. Teams will also have to grapple with new strategies, specifically how to send their driver back on track without being in the way of other cars.
The reason for the removal of the warm-up blankets is due to finances, among other things. This technology requires hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs and also a large amount of electricity. And the result?
We’ll have to wait and see. What is certain, however, is that there could be some very interesting car sliding on the road. And that will make Formula One racing more interesting.
