Real Madrid won the 22nd round of La Liga, beating Las Palmas 2-1. The game had to be turned around just like the last round, with Vinícius and Aurelien Tchouameni making the difference in the second half. Real are now top of the table.
Alberto Moleiro threatened in the third minute. But his shot had to be knocked away for a corner by the Real defence. On the other side, Rodrygo’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, who stopped it from going to the left post.
In the 14th minute, Antonio Rüdiger headed the ball, but the German stopper missed the target. Twenty minutes later, the stadium nearly exploded with excitement. But Sergi Cardona’s attempt ended up just wide of Andriy Lunin’s goal.
In the 36th minute, it could have been joyous on the other side. But the home goalkeeper flashed against Vinícius Júnior. And the Brazilian international closed the first half with an inaccurate shot, so it was goalless going into the booths.
The home underdog continued to play sympathetically even after the change of sides, Munir El Haddadi’s shot to the right post missed Lunin. In the 53rd minute Las Palmas were already celebrating. But Javier Munoz had an easy job after a quick action down the right side.
Real had to rotate again
Four minutes later, the game could have been level, but Dani Carvajal’s shot was disallowed for offside. In the 65th, Toni Kroos sent a goalbound pass behind the defence, but Vinícius overdid it with the intensity of his lob and sent the ball high over.
A minute later, however, the Brazilian had already adjusted his sights, hitting the bottom left corner with his left foot after a pass from Eduardo Camavinga. And in the 83rd minute, Real completed the turnaround, with a header after a corner from French joker Aurelien Tchouameni.
The visitors finished the game with experience, never letting Las Palmas put them under any real pressure. After the 2-1 triumph, Real moved to the top of the table, two points ahead of Girona. After a brave performance, Las Palmas are in eighth place, one point behind the cup positions.
