Another problem for Novak Djokovic! He can’t play in Indian Wells

The organisers of the Indian Wells tournament were counting on Novak Djokovic playing only his second tournament of the current season. But that won’t happen, as authorities in the US will not allow him to enter the country due to a lack of coronavirus vaccination.

The organisers of the Indian Wells tournament were counting on Novak Djokovic playing only his second tournament of the current season. But that won’t happen, as authorities in the US will not allow him to enter the country due to a lack of coronavirus vaccination.

Novak Djokovic missed out on the inaugural Grand Slam, which as usual was played in Australia, because of the vaccination. Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal took advantage of his absence to win a record 21st Grand Slam laurel.

The thirty-four-year-old Serbian will not make his debut in 2022 until Dubai. He first defeated Musetti in the local environment, after which he also won the scalp of Karen Khachanov. In the quarter-finals, however, he was stopped by Jiri Vesely, who won after 6:4 and 7:6 sets.

Since Daniil Medvedev reached the semi-finals at the same tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, Djokovic lost his world number one position. He was replaced by the Russian player.

Djokovic had the chance to return to the top of the ATP rankings in Indian Wells. To do so, he would only need to record a better result than Medvedev, who had already dropped out here last year in the eighth round with Grigor Dimitrov.

But that won’t happen, as Djokovic said on his Twitter account that the authorities in the US won’t let him into the country because of the vaccination. At the same time, he wished good luck to all the players who will be competing in the prestigious ATP Tour 1000 tournament.

If Medvedev repeats his performance from last year, he will remain in the first position. Djokovic, on the other hand, will have to look behind him as well, because in case of a triumph he may be quite close to Alexander Zverev.
