Definitely confirmed! Manchester City have made a really solid signing from Chelsea, with Mateo Kovacic moving from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad Stadium. The Croatian international is one of the players leaving Chelsea as part of the rebuilding process. What are the details of the transfer?
The London big club announced that there will be quite a significant rebuilding in the summer before the end of the last Premier League season.
In the last hours, the well-known and trusted Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano came up with the information that three players are leaving Chelsea for Saudi Arabia. Namely, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly.
These transfers to Saudi Arabian clubs are yet to be signed, with Romano now coming in with a transfer already confirmed.
Also leaving Stamford Bridge is Mateo Kovacic, who will head to Manchester City. It should be noted, the London-Manchester transfer was speculated back in May. Now, however, everything is already done.
The Citizens will send 25 million euros to London, with another five million in play if the famous Manchester club wins another title. It does not depend on the performance of the player himself.
The Croatian international agreed on personal terms a week ago, while Kovacic also reportedly did not want to move anywhere else than Manchester City.
A medical will follow in the next few days, but in this case it will be just a formal matter. According to Roman, the transfer is complete.
Kovacic transferred to Chelsea in July 2019. In that time, he managed to play 221 competitive games for the Blues, in which he scored six goals and fifteen assists. He has won the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup once in a Chelsea jersey.
