Another legend says goodbye. Jordi Alba quits Barcelona after the season

For eleven years, the Spanish defender has been a certainty in the back line of FC Barcelona. From the left-back position, he made dangerous forays forward and supplied the Catalan offensive stars with accurate passes. Lionel Messi in particular benefited from these attacking excursions by Alba. After the season, however, Alba and Barcelona parted ways. The Spaniard announced that he would no longer continue at the club. Thus ends another player who is associated with the successful era of the club.

For eleven years, the Spanish defender has been a certainty in the FC Barcelona back line.

Alba is one of the offspring of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy. He started his professional career in Valencia and has been playing for Barcelona since 2012.

Alba experienced his most successful season in the 2014/15 season, when the Catalan big club under Luis Enrique won the Champions League, the Spanish Cup and LaLiga to record a treble. During this time, the dreaded Messi-Suarez-Nemyar trio was rampant in Barcelona’s attack.

However, Alba also played a major part in the offensive success of these strikers. With his accurate passes and centres, he often found one of the three dangerous strikers who effectively finished off the offensive actions developed by Alba. The collaboration between Alba and Lionel Messi in particular was legendary in Spain.

As time went on, however, Alba began to lose his place in the starting line-up. Barcelona have a great promise for the left edge of defence in the future in the form of young Alejandro Balde.

And since Alba is under contract with the club until 2024, he has decided to bid farewell to the club where he experienced the greatest success of his career after eleven years.

The information about Alba’s end at Barcelona was brought by Italian journalist specializing in transfer policy Fabrizio Romano. Alba is thus the next player, after defensive midfielder and another club legend Sergio Busquets, who will no longer wear the Barcelona jersey after the season.

Jordi Alba spent eleven seasons at Barcelona. He has won a total of six league titles, enjoyed one Champions League victory, one Club World Cup title and also lifted the UEFA Super Cup winner’s trophy over his head once. With the Spanish national team, Alba won the European Championship in 2012.
