With only three races left in this year’s Formula 1 season, teams are running out of time to fit the mandatory rookie roster into free practice. Jack Doohan will make his debut in the queen of motorsport in the Alpine. The young Australian will get his chance in the Mexican and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

the 19-year-old Australian has put in a solid performance so far this Formula 2 season. The Virtuosi Racing driver has three wins this year, one of which is in the main race. This is also why Doohan is fourth in the overall standings and can theoretically still think about Théo Pourchaire’s second position.

It is very likely that the Alpina junior will continue to race in F2 in 2023. He will be 20 next season and will be one of the main title contenders. After all, he has already shown in the lower category that he is not lacking in quality.

Second place in Formula 3 last year is a testament to the talent of the Australian driver. But the fight for victory is also in Doohan’s blood. His father is Mick Doohan, five-time champion of the 500cc category.

“I’m as prepared as I can be,” said the young Virtuosi driver. “It will be exciting to test the car on this type of circuit at high altitude and very high speeds,” the 19-year-old added about the circuit in Mexico.

The Australian won’t be taking to the Monoposto as a junior himself. Liam Lawson, who got his F1 taste in Belgium where he drove Pierre Gasly’s car, will also be in Alpha Tauri colours at the Central American circuit.

The first practice session for the Mexican Grand Prix is scheduled for Friday at 8pm CET. The race itself will start at 9pm on Sunday.
